Alfa Romeo Unveils the All-New 2024 Tonale, Giulia and Stelvio in the UAE

Abu Dhabi, UAE, September 19, 2023: Gargash Motors and Alfa Romeo have officially unveiled the 2024 Alfa Romeo lineup in the UAE – featuring the all-new Tonale, Giulia, and Stelvio, marking the models’ official GCC debuts.

Delivering unparalleled performance, a rich heritage, and exceptional Italian craftsmanship, the 2024 Alfa Romeo lineup was revealed during a special event held at Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi – home to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The All-new 2024 Tonale, Giulia, and Stelvio are now available at Gargash and Alfa Romeo showrooms across Dubai and Abu Dhabi. All three new models have undergone notable advancements in the brand’s signature characteristics, including their exceptional weight distribution, top tier driving dynamics, and cutting-edge technological and engineering solutions that position them at the forefront of their segment.

Taking center stage at the launch is the brand-new 2024 Tonale, marking Alfa Romeo’s entry into the highly competitive compact SUV segment, recognised as the world’s largest automotive market. Set to make a significant impact in the region, the all-new Tonale boasts Italian design excellence, impeccable craftsmanship, and a host of distinctive features that set it apart within its class. With a choice of two distinct trims, Ti and Veloce, the Tonale caters to a wide spectrum of preferences and driving requirements, presenting a seamless fusion of style, performance, and cutting-edge technology.

The Tonale marks the ‘metamorphosis’ of Alfa Romeo into a new era of mobility. The Ti version is defined externally with a satin chrome V front bezel, 18-inch dark finish diamond cut alloy wheels with coloured Alfa Romeo centre wheel caps, a gloss-black body kit with satin side and front inserts, and black painted mirror caps. Inside, sporty black cloth upholstery, a driver’s seat with four-way electric lumbar adjustment, 60/40 split rear seats with ski pass and a sport leather steering wheel with a start button mark out the Ti.

Commenting on the launch, Morgan Sunderland, General Manager at Gargash Motors, said “We firmly believe that customer satisfaction goes beyond the purchase of a car. It extends to the entire ownership experience. We at Gargash Motors along with our partners such as Alfa Romeo want you to enjoy every moment behind the wheel, knowing that we are there to support you at every step. Alfa Romeo’s range for 2024 is genuinely designed to go above and beyond what our customers expect.”

Jo Moursi, Head of Italian Brands, Stellantis Middle East, said: “The unveiling of Alfa Romeo’s 2024 lineup for the first time in the GCC, featuring the Tonale, Giulia, and Stelvio, marks a pivotal moment for car aficionados in the Emirates. Recognising the UAE as a key market where there’s an inherent appreciation for automotive sophistication, a deep-rooted love for Italian brands, and an enduring enthusiasm for motorsports, Alfa Romeo is uniquely positioned to capture the imagination of the local driving community. Our illustrious history in motorsports, particularly in Formula 1, strongly resonates with UAE drivers, and thanks to our partner Gargash Motors, we are enhancing the ownership experience by offering unique after-sales service, including a seven-year service and warranty package.”

The 2024 Giulia and Stelvio encompass all the work and dedication of the Alfa Romeo designers and engineers to improve upon two masterpieces, both of which are the result of the perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality. Standing out on the fronts of the new Giulia and Stelvio, the front grille, where the logo is positioned, and the lower grilles of the two main air ducts have been given a unique finishing, providing a contemporary reinterpretation of the famous and distinct “Trilobo” grille.

Additionally, the New Giulia and Stelvio are equipped with the most cutting-edge technology to ensure a comfortable and connected experience, while simultaneously providing the trademark pleasure of driving an Alfa Romeo.

When it comes to driving dynamics, the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio stand out as best-in-class within their segment. The meticulous engineering and attention to detail result in an exceptional driving performance that sets new benchmarks for agility, responsiveness, and precision.

Earlier this month, Alfa Romeo announced the rebirth of its custom-built 33 Stradale, a veritable “manifesto” of the Italian brand’s capabilities – now and in the future – in terms of style and driving experience. Made in only 33 exclusive units, according to a unique artisan process, the new “two-seater” coupé combines the brand’s heritage and future as the symbol of noble Italian sportsmanship.

3 June, 2023, Dubai, UAE: ZED, the first mobility app to offer customers a personalised premium e-hailing service, has officially launched its app in the UAE. The Dubai-based company aims to provide a fully unique experience and sets out to redefine ride-hailing in the region.  Catering to the discerning residents of the UAE, who have high standards and expect nothing short of excellence when it comes to their transportation needs, ZED has crafted a ride-hailing experience that is both swift and dependable.

Whilst ride-hailing isn’t a new concept for the UAE market, premium-seeking individuals often face challenges such as car unavailability and ride cancellations, which detract from the overall journey experience. Recognising this gap, ZED has emerged as the ultimate solution, providing a hassle-free and high-end ride-hailing experience that caters specifically to the exacting standards of customers in the region.

The local company is committed to supporting a smart intermodal city in line with the strategic smart city goals and vision conceptualised under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and General Supervisor of the Dubai Smart City project.

Abhinav Patwa, Head of ZED, commented, “As a company rooted in the UAE, we recognise the importance of aligning our efforts with the city’s ambition to become the world’s first truly smart city, fostering connectivity with both residents and visitors. ZED has been created with the purpose of redefining traditional hailing services, prioritising our customers’ satisfaction, preferences, and convenience above all else. In an era where personalised experiences are in high demand, ZED is revolutionizing the ride-hailing industry by introducing fully customized journeys that are meticulously tailored to delight and cater to individual preferences. With ZED, customers can configure their journey to the smallest detail with the tap of a button. They can select the level of discussion with the driver, music preference, volume, temperature control and even the car interior light intensity and colour to ensure that the trip meets their desires. It even includes a coffee option to request a cold brew before the ride, for the ultimate leisurely experience.

Each ZED journey is designed around the user, adapting to the pick-up and drop-off locations while enjoying different modes for every mood and requirement, such as travel, work, relaxation and many more. Zed also prides itself on timeliness, guaranteeing its customers that they will be picked up and dropped off on time using the best and safest routes possible.

Often, customers struggle with repeated bookings on a daily basis, which can be tiresome and time-consuming. Unlike other ride-hailing services in the country, Zed works on a scheduled basis called the ‘rhythm’ booking feature. With the help of this feature, users can easily set up a schedule that aligns with their plans conveniently. Customers benefit from booking the service in advance and avoiding the hassle of making bookings daily. Booking for someone else is also available through the same app and account.

ZED is currently only available in Dubai and will soon be available in other cities. The app is now available for free download from the Apple Store and Google Play Store.

Bodour Al Qasimi tells tech firms to open top jobs to women and create fairer workplaces

Bodour Al Qasimi tells tech firms to open top jobs to women and create fairer workplaces

Dubai, May 21, 2023

Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, President of American University of Sharjah (AUS) and of Sharjah Research, Technology, and Innovation Park (SRTIP), has urged leaders of technology companies to be more proactively inclusive by factoring women’s needs into corporate thinking from the start.

Keynoting WIRED’s third anniversary ‘Arab Women in Tech’ conference, in Dubai, Sheikha Bodour said it was imperative humanity learn from its mistakes and evolve without ‘leaving half the population behind’.

To illustrate, she said: ‘When airbags were introduced, they killed and injured more women and children than men. Why? Because women and children’s physical differences and car seating positions were not calculated in the test results.’

She continued: ‘When we talk about technology and the future, we should ask ourselves if women are included in our calculations. Are women being encouraged and supported to keep up with this change, or being left behind?’

Progress made, work still to do

Citing regional progress, Sheikha Bodour said 56% of UAE government university graduates in STEM subjects were women, while in Saudi Arabia the ratio of women in ICT had increased from 7% to 28% since 2018, surpassing the EU and G20 averages of 17.5%.

Female enrolment at American University of Sharjah’s College of Engineering has surged to 36% of new undergraduates and 47% of graduates for the spring semester of 2023. And at Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park, women make up more than half the workforce, including leading roles in technology, engineering, and lab teams.Despite these successes, female-led start-ups in the Middle East receive only 2% of funding from venture capitalists, and only 38% of women who studied computer science work in the field, compared to 53% of men.

Steps firms can take

Sheikha Bodour told Arab Women in Tech that companies must remove barriers to participation by considering women’s needs higher upstream in decision making, because opportunities are only equal when access to them is equal.

She suggested creating inclusive workplaces and cultures that promote and leverage diversity and inclusion; starting female mentorship programmes; allowing flexible working; and ensuring equal pay and opportunities for advancement.

Additionally, she called for more women to be promoted to leadership of tech organizations, as their ongoing exclusion ‘perpetuates gender biases and limits diverse perspectives in decision-making’.

‘Women have unique needs and face specific challenges, such as balancing work and family responsibilities and dealing with pregnancy and motherhood. We can’t expect them to perform and grow in their careers in environments that weren’t built with their needs in mind,’ she said.

‘By actively promoting and supporting women’s career advancement in the tech sector, we can increase their representation in leadership roles and bring their voices, fresh ideas and innovative solutions to the industry’s challenges.’

From 2021 to 2022, Sheikha Bodour was the second woman and first Arab and Muslim president of the 126-year-old International Publishers Association. In 2019 she started PublisHer, an initiative to empower women in publishing and advance them towards leadership and board roles. In 2021 PublisHer released a Diversity & Inclusion Diagnostic Toolkit, a step-by-step guide for publishing companies to assess and improve their DEI performance.

The WIRED Arab Women in Tech conference

The ‘Women in Tech’ event was a celebration of women’s leadership in the technology sector organized by WIRED magazine to mark its third anniversary. The event convened regional innovators and featured leading women in STEM, who shared their stories and discussed challenges and opportunities for women in the industry.
