The activities of the Emirates Urological Association Conference and the 20th Asian Conference were launched in Dubai this evening, which Dubai is hosting for the first time in the Middle East and the Gulf, with the participation of more than 2,500 doctors from more than 75 countries at the Conrad Dubai Hotel.

Dr. Abdul Qader Al Zarouni, President of the Emirates Urological Society and Chairman of the Conference, welcomed the hosting of the Asian Conference, which Dubai is hosting for the first time, stressing that the discussions that will be conducted by the doctors participating in the conference, whether through lectures and research or sessions and discussions, will result in positive results that will benefit the participating doctors and patients in a great way. Dr. Yasser Al-Saeedi, Vice President of the Society, indicated that the conference will focus on developing clinical skills and training on the latest technologies and modern devices in all subspecialties in kidney diseases and urinary tract surgeries.

He added that the conference will discuss over three days approximately 1,000 working and research papers, most of which will be reviewed in separate sessions to encourage medical personnel to research and scientific publication, in addition to holding 14 workshops for training, work and practice using the latest modern technologies such as robotics and modern technology in urology.

Dr. Younis Al-Shamsi, Secretary of the Urology Society, expressed his happiness at hosting the twentieth Asian Urology Conference, expressing his hope that the conferences will produce results that will benefit all participants in developing their scientific and practical expertise to serve urinary tract disease.

The event was attended by students, government officials and space enthusiasts who engaged in a real-time interaction with the UAE’s representative in space.

 

His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan said: “We are incredibly proud of you, Sultan. Your accomplishments have ignited a beacon of inspiration for our younger generations. Approximately 300 people attended the event at Louvre Abu Dhabi listening to Al Neyadi’s who providedinformation and insights into his mission, which is the longest Arab space mission in history. Responding to various queries, Al Neyadi discussed about the importance of the suit he wore during the spacewalk, the effect of the microgravity environment on his body, and how he maintains his immunity on the ISS, among others.

 

The current mission, marking Al Neyadi’s sixth month in space, has achieved numerous firsts for an Arab astronaut, such as conducting a spacewalk, performing scientific experiments, and more. As the A Call from Space series nears its conclusion, it has granted close to 10,000 attendees the unique opportunity to connect with Al Neyadi, gaining an understanding of his mission, life aboard the ISS, and space exploration in general.

 

The MBRSC-Louvre Abu Dhabi collaboration extends beyond A Call from Space, recently announcing a partnership for the interactive exhibition, Picturing the Cosmos, which is currently on display at the museum. The exhibition seeks to inspire children through a compelling adventure exploring celestial space through its artistic representations across time and cultures.

 

The UAE Astronaut Programme is one of the projects managed by MBRSC under the UAE’s National Space Programme and funded by the ICT Fund of the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA), which aims to support research and development in the ICT sector in the UAE and promote the country’s integration on the global stage.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 24 July 2023: The UAE Society of Engineers has announced the opening of registration for the 2nd Excellence and Creative Engineering Award under the patronage of Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Supreme President of the Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Distinguished Academic Performance. The Award, which primarily aims to promote and encourage a culture of excellence, innovation, and creativity and highlight the significance of national engineering work, seeks to ignite a spirit of competition, leadership and excellence in various engineering fields to keep up with the fast-paced advancements globally.

The Excellence and Creative Engineering Award, initiated under the directives of the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, may he rest in peace, is the first of its kind in the UAE. It is designed to highlight the best practices and innovative engineering models that have proven successful to further develop engineering projects across diverse fields.

“I am pleased to officially announce the launch of the second edition of the Excellence and Creative Engineering Award, which will accept entries until October 17th. This Award is a testament to our commitment to promoting innovation and excellence in engineering across the UAE. He added: “The Award honors the outstanding contributions and achievements in the engineering sector, and inspires the next generation of engineers to push the boundaries of what is possible and make a positive impact on society. It also seeks to adopt winning projects and innovative ideas in the sector, motivating and encouraging engineers to innovate and provide sustainable and innovative solutions and practices. Furthermore, the Award plays a role in enhancing the ability of institutions, companies, and individuals to adopt an active, competitive, and inspiring environment for exploring new horizons, achieving leadership and excellence, and unprecedented achievements in the engineering fields, contributing to ensuring a sustainable and better future.”

The Award’s organizers have also announced the addition of new sub-categories for the competition this year, bringing the total number to 11 sub-categories, compared to seven last year. These include the Pioneering Engineering Project Award, Best Engineering Consultancy Company Award, Best Engineering Services Company Award, Best Construction Company Award, and Best Industrial Company Award. The awards for Best Startup Engineering Company and Best Scientific Research in Engineering Field were recently added to the list.

The Pioneering Engineering Project Award, meanwhile, will be given to the Best Mega Project, Best Medium Project, and Best Small Project.

For the Individual category, there will still be the Leading Personnel, Outstanding Engineer, Outstanding Student, and Rising Engineer awards. The Rising Engineer Award is the new name given to last year’s Future Engineer Award.

 

Those who are eligible to join are Government and Ministers, Consultants and Engineering Services Providers, Industrial Companies, Engineering Start-ups, Contractors, Students and Professors in Educational Institutes, Research Centres, Project Owners, and Project Management Companies.

The Excellence and Creative Engineering Award is based on the highest international standards for excellence and innovation in the engineering sector and operates with complete transparency and a rigorous evaluation process, overseen by a committee of experts in various engineering fields. The evaluation process assesses the quality of the project and the extent to which innovation and technical excellence are employed throughout the project life cycle, from the design concept, engineering, and construction, to their impact on society and the environment. Participants can submit any previous, current, or future projects.

Launched in March 2022, the Excellence and Creative Engineering Award was intended to foster a culture of creativity and enhance the pace of innovative competition in the field of engineering designs and projects. This initiative is in line with the country’s vision, strategies, and national projects, which are focused on achieving leadership, quality, and excellence across various sectors and fields.

The UAE Society of Engineers, which organizes the Award, has been in existence since 1979 and has attracted over 65,000 engineers and engineering companies to its membership. The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has discussed ways to advance bilateral economic relations between the Emirate of Sharjah and the Republic of Costa Rica.

The Chamber also held fruitful discussion to strengthen commercial and industrial cooperation and investment among the private sector organisations, institutions, and events within the framework of the friendly relationship that combines both nations.

This was discussed during the meeting held at SCCI’s headquarter, between His Excellency Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, SCCI Chairman; His Excellency Francisco J. Chacon Hernández, Ambassador of the Republic of Costa Rica to the UAE, and Her Excellency Karina Molina, Trade Commissioner for the Middle East at Costa Rica Embassy.

His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al-Awadi, SCCI Director General; Abdulaziz Mohammed Shattaf, Assistant Director General for Communication and Business Sector; and Fatima Khalifa Al-Muqrab, SCCI Director for International Relations, we’re also present on the occasion.

In order to encourage Costa Rican business community to increase its investments in Sharjah, SCCI reviewed the incentives, privileges, and various forms of support and assistance offered by the Emirate to foreign companies operating in the sectors and fields consistent with Sharjah’s economic vision and future directions towards achieving sustainable development.

His Excellency Abdullah Sultan Al Owais welcomed the delegation and praised the friendly ties between the two nations, as well as their strong partnership which spans a variety of economic and trade spheres. This partnership has created a strong framework for expanding trade and investment opportunities and horizons between the business communities of the UAE and Costa Rica. This is in line with a goal shared by the leaders of the two nations that were recently represented by conducting negotiations and discussions to eventually sign a comprehensive economic partnership agreement, which will usher in a new era of trade and investment cooperation in a variety of fields and support the two nations’ sustainable economic growth.

For his part, H.E. Francisco J. Chacon Hernández expressed his sincere gratitude to the SCCI for its ongoing commitment to enhancing bilateral ties and promoting investment in crucial industries. He also highlighted the need to continue efforts to enhance cooperation in many areas of shared interest, including the agricultural and food sectors, etc. Chacon urged the SCCI to take part in the business buyer exhibition, which will be held in Costa Rica from September 27 to 28, 2023, and the education exhibition, which will be held from September 25 to 26, 2023. These events will cover topics such as specialized education issues, sustainability, agriculture, and biodiversity.

In a way that served their shared interests, Chacon also extended an invitation to the Emirati business community to travel to Costa Rica and learn about the investment prospects it offers.

The fourth edition of the ‘Jewels of the Emirates’ show commenced today (Thursday) in Sharjah, an event that has the distinction of being the first Emirati exhibition dedicated to diamond jewelry, gold, silver, pearls, luxury watches, and perfumes.

Hosted by the Expo Centre Sharjah with the support of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the show is set to captivate visitors over its four-day duration, bringing together leading Emirati gold and jewelry design pioneers. It features over 100 exhibitors from renowned local brands specializing in gold, silver, diamonds, and precious stones.

Sheikh Majid bin Faisal bin Khalid Al Qasimi, First Deputy Chairman of the Chamber, inaugurated the exhibition in the presence of members of the Board of Directors of the Chamber and Expo Centre Sharjah, including HE Mohammad Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director-General of SCCI, and HE Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah. Also present were senior official and representatives of major companies and brands participating in the event.

Following the inauguration, attendees toured the exhibition, where they had the opportunity to view the latest jewelry collections and contemporary designs displayed by local companies. Visitors also interacted with numerous Emirati designers, listening to them explain their exceptional gold creations and unique designs, which align with current fashion trends while maintaining the authenticity of Emirati heritage.

Sheikh Majid bin Faisal bin Khalid Al Qasimi emphasized that the ‘Jewels of the Emirates’ show is a key component of SCCI’s strategic vision. “We look forward to bolstering the exhibition industry’s role in reinforcing the local gold and jewelry sectors, stimulating the trade of precious metals and gemstones, and elevating the UAE’s status as a global hub for these industries.”

“The volume of gold sales in the UAE witnessed a substantial growth of 33.1% in 2022, reaching 55.4 tons, up from 41.6 tons in 2021. These promising figures underscore the flourishing nature of our local gold industry.” Al Midfa said:
