23rd Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association Congress kicks off in Dubai

Dubai, Feb. 29,2024: The 23rd edition of the Asia Pacific Orthopedic Association Congress kicked off in Dubai today, with the participation of 1,100 doctors and specialists in orthopaedics from 23 countries in the region and the world.

The opening of the three-day conference at the Intercontinental Festival City Hotel was attended by Dr. Ali Al Suwaidi, Head of Orthopedics at the Emirates Medical Association and a number of officials and stakeholders.

Dr. Saeed Al-Thani, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Chairman of the Congress  , stressed that the current first round of this event is of particular importance to doctors, specialists and professionals in the fields of orthopedics, not only as one of the most important and largest orthopedic gatherings of the Asian Association, but also because the organizing committee has chosen new topics to be discussed and discussed at length, especially topics related to orthopedic operations and related modern fields.

He pointed out that the number of local and regional speakers in the congress  reached 219 speakers, the number of scientific sessions 78 sessions, the total number of scientific lectures 257 lectures and the number of scientific research papers 158 research and scientific papers, which will contribute to developing and enhancing the efficiency of national doctors and providing them with scientific and practical experiences, noting the large presence from all countries of the region for this specialized conference.

He pointed out that the aim of organizing medical conferences is to provide a platform to train national doctors and their counterparts from neighboring countries on the latest global trends in the diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic diseases, exchange experiences and knowledge in everything related to orthopedic surgery with the best international experts and specialists, in addition to reviewing the latest modern medical devices and equipment used in orthopedic surgeries and discussing new treatments.

He stated that the current session of the conference will focus mainly on the modern uses of medical endoscopes and artificial intelligence in the fields of knee and shoulder joint replacement through the use of augmented reality through the “detailing” and manufacturing of the knee or shoulder for each patient separately according to the patient’s sizes, in addition to discussing recent developments in the fields of orthopedics, including upper limb surgery, pelvic surgery, lower limbs, knee arthroplasty, sports injuries, meniscus, foot and ankle, and the latest technologies in the treatment of fractures, for the first time that is done Discussed at the conference due to the increasing number of cases in which the bones and tendons of the shoulder joint are transferred, replaced and transplanted.

Dr. Saeed Al-Thani and Dr. Ali Al-Suwaidi inaugurated the exhibition accompanying the conference, in which 13 local and international companies participate to present the most important findings in orthopedic surgery.

Dr. Saeed Al-Thani said in a statement on the sidelines of the conference that the treatment of roughness with stem cells has not yet been approved and is still under research and experiments, pointing out that the promotion of this treatment through social media platforms is inaccurate despite the high costs of treatment, explaining that stem cells, like oil needles or “cortisone” needles, give an improvement for some time, which may reach 6 months, but it cannot be considered an effective treatment.
